It is situated on the historic Villa Montalvo estate, which was once the home of Senator James Duval Phelan. The center is named after Senator Phelan’s pseudonym, which was “Senador Montalvo.” Montalvo Arts Center is known for its dedication to promoting and supporting the arts in various forms, including visual arts, performing arts, and literary arts.
