The Independent School for the City is excited to announce its programme for the last months of 2024. Check out our upcoming activities below, pick what you like and register now!
We started the month of September with our yearly Film & Architecture Studio organised in collaboration with AFFR. In October, we will continue with Into the Woods—a one-week course exploring strategies for radically greening our cities by creating a micro forest, with Peter Veenstra (LOLA Landscape Architects) and ecologist Ronald Buiting. In the beginning of November we will team up with Studio Ossidiana for a hands-on Craftivism workshop on the expressive potential of concrete, involving formwork, pouring and polishing, and later that month, you can join the second edition of our Fables of the Reconstruction seminar, which is this time focused on the reconstruction of Ukraine and Gaza—two countries at war within the Western sphere of influence.
Next to that we will continue our School’s Out! series, with in September Florian Idenburg, co-founder of the New-York based architecture office SO – IL; in October architect and author Pedro Gadnho on the role designers (can) play in the current climate catastrophe, and for November we’ve invited Sofia Hernàndez Chong Cuy to talk about the decolonisation of cultural institutions.
Furthermore, we will start the 5th edition of our Back to School with… lecture series, this time with Lena Knappers & Bram van Ooijen about climate change, environmental justice and migration.
And last but not least, we planned some extra events! On September 19, we will host a lecture by the Cairo-based Omar Nagati and Omar Khaled of CLUSTER to talk about informal urban processes. On September 20 you can join a field trip to Carel Weeber’s works led by Wouter Vanstiphout, author of Autonoom: 100% Carel Weeber. On 1 October we are opening our doors for a public lecture on Logistics, Labor, and the Struggle Against Amazon by Charmaine Chua in collaboration with the DIGIPORTS research team at Erasmus University, and on 17 October we welcome you for an afternoon about proximity and the urbanisation of station areas, organised in collaboration with De Zwarte Hond.
