In 2024, the foundation celebrates its fifteenth anniversary with a rich program organized around major events: XXH, a double group exhibition exploring the eXtra-eXtra-Human, the first part of which focused on the individual, examining the complexity of the human condition and the desires and impulses that drive us.
XXH—Time 2
September 11–December 20, 2024
Fondation Francès, Clichy (92), France
The second part places the individual at the heart of society and history, exploring collective movements and excesses, and the confrontations and resistances that oppose them. XXH offers an in-depth analysis of collective excess from an intimate, personal perspective.
The works presented examine the mechanisms of violence that structure our societies, and question the direct involvement of individuals in the construction of collective excesses. Mirrors of human conflicts and hopes, they reflect the tensions between private and political, individual and collective, destructive forces and acts of rebellion, opposing dynamics that shape society, its history and its collective memory.
They encourage awareness and personal commitment in the face of injustice. Viewing art as a means of resilience and social transformation, XXH transcends the exhibition and offers a platform for reflection and action, questioning viewers about their position in the contemporary world and their responsibilities in the face of collective crises.
Among the artists featured: Kader Attia, Fatemeh Baigmoradi, Cathryn Boch, Christian Boltanski, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Michael Ray Charles, Mounir Fatmi, Ronald Ophuis, Christine Spengler, Bri Williams.
PAXXH
October 12–November 3, 2024
Fondation Francès, Senlis (60), France
With a selection of works from the collection, the collective exhibition explores the vital movement that animates every being, probing its fragility and power, but above all its potential for transformation and sublimation. Works by Roy Adzak, Mari Katayama, Hans Op de Beeck, Marta Spagnoli, Joana Vasconcelos and Anne Wenzel respond to the urgent need to offer a time for contemplation and reflection on our relationship to the world, to otherness, to our environment and to our memory. Drawing on theories developed around complex thinking and the ecology of attention, PAXXH looks to animality and harmony with nature as the foundations of our humanity.
